Joining the SNF Agora Institute as a Visiting Fellow

Some exciting news! I'll be joining the SNF Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University as a Visiting Fellow this fall!

In building CivicLex over the past decade, one of the most fascinating things has been having one foot in the local news space and the other in the democracy space and watching them evolve, especially as a local practitioner.

Local news has exploded, building new infrastructure, supports, and direct funding mechanisms in service of local organizations, the democracy field… is a bit behind in serving local, despite some promising bright spots of infrastructure. Why??

Well, during my time at SNF Agora I'll get to examine that exact question! What lessons can we all learn from how philanthropy has invested in local media to better inform how it could support local civic life? What national infrastructure could better support authentic, community-led local civic renewal? We'll see!

Can't wait to get started!
