Lexington Council Sends Civic Assembly Recommendations to the Ballot

On Thursday, Lexington's Council made their final vote on CivicLex's Civic Assembly recommendations, placing all three of them on the ballot for a public referendum this November!

If adopted by the general public, Lexington would enshrine in its Charter a permanent Civic Assembly process, taking place every 8 years for Charter Review. It would also update Council pay to be the average annual wage in Lexington, and create public attendance and accountability expectations for Council for the first time.

Two of the recommendations (Charter Review and Accountability) were unanimously approved by our 15 person Council, and the third (to increase Council Compensation), was approved 13-2.

Moving forward, we will be helping our community understand where these recommendations came from and what they would do through our annual voter guide and voter education events, and we will be eagerly awaiting returns in November.
